Good Running Shoe with Stability and Padding, September 30, 2009
By Wandrwoman(NY, NY)
I was sold this running shoe about a year ago by an expert at a store that specializes in running gear. He strongly recommended the 1224 for its stability and padding. I had been wearing the NB 857 series but the salesman thought that the 1224 was a superior shoe that offered greater support and stability.
As I always do, I replaced the sneaker's insole with a green Spenco arch support insole Spenco® Orthotic Arch Supports Full Length. A podiatrist who specializes in running related injuries taught me this trick years ago and it really works! Since using the Spenco insoles I've had nary a shin splint, aching arch or blister.
The 1224 come in three widths, have a tall, wide toe box, a well padded collar around the ankle that is higher at the heel, extremely long "curvy" or "nubby" laces that resist untying and silver reflective strips that glow at night. They are light weight, comfortable and fit me well. They are also extremely stabile.
NB running shoes require that you go a full size up from your normal shoe size. So, if you wear a size 7 shoe, you would need a size 8 NB sneaker. Finding your proper width is important for fit as well.
At first I thought that the 1224 were a bit too padded as I felt little of the road as I jogged, but this passed after a few wearings. Also, the nail polish on my big toes gets rubbed a bit but most of my former running shoes have been hard on pedicures.
I probably should have replaced them several months ago as they have become increasingly broken down.
Just started searching for them on the web. No, I didn't originally buy them from Amazon! Who wants to buy running shoes without trying them on first?
I will defininatly buy them again and it seems good buys are available now as a new model, the 1225 has been introduced.
I found them a lot cheaper, September 29, 2009
